LUNCH WITH DAVID EASTON & LARRY LASLO

I was invited to a luncheon yesterday at a yacht club in Rye, NY for famed interior designers David Easton and Larry Laslo. A huge fan of Larry's and a great admirer of Mr. Easton's I of course had to go.
I have always loved Larry Laslo's elegant but chic style with a hint of over the top added like icing to a cake. In person he is the same way and a quick conversation with him had me wanting more. As he talked about his style and his clients (just to give you an idea of the scale of his projects, his new client has 17 bathrooms) I felt like this was a man who knew what he was good at, had a style and if you liked it he was happy, if you didn't he was happy. He was care free, easy going about his interiors, but you could see the time and thought that went into his projects so that the end result looked like easy elegance.

David Easton, like all interior designers strive to become, is a jack of all trades.  Going from designer to architect and furniture designers he has surprisingly followed the global trend of shape shifting. I was intrigued that Mr. Easton, wasn't just a traditionalist, but was also a realist. Understanding that our world is growing rapidly in size, money is more important than ever and the ability to be patient is gone, he says the days of waiting a year and half for a house to be built are over and modular homes that can be constructed in less than 5 days are the wave of the future. Communal living is more important then formal living. My favorite quote from him yesterday "It's fu&*ing stupid to have a separate dining room, living room, TV room. They should all be in the same large room." I think he is referring more to the America's need for "things" and greed. I agree totally however, a large living space is the way the future is headed.
David Easton also has a new book out Timeless Elegance and he has graciously agreed to do a book signing at The Summer House. I would contact TSH to get on the invite list- their email is thesummerhousect@gmail.com.
   Enjoy the pics!!!
