As a store owner, I always struggle to display items in a fun, unique way. However, there are limits to what you can do with a bunch of candles. Really, store display is an art form and nobody does it better then the team at Ralph Lauren. A few years ago they came into my store to buy some last minute items they needed for their window in town. I asked them how they always came up with such great ideas and one of them said, "With a very clear vision and a lot of money." Of course! Well I don't have A LOT of money to do store display, BUT that doesn't mean it still can't be done well. Even if you don't own a store this might be helpful when styling a house. Enjoy!

I LOVE the middle picture of the paper garland hanging. This is super inexpensive,  but in the right color could be very dramatic. I'm going to do this ASAP.

The Summer House-New Canaan
In my own store I painted this main wall a bright red to make the room pop. One wall will make all the difference, you don't need to do all four.  The photograph is by Bonnie Edelman, a photographer we had a show for. Her horses are gorgeous.

For spring I went a bit Mexican. The accent wall was painted turquoise and then orange paper lanterns were purchased from Indian Trading Co. Cheap cheap and so fun.

I was cleaning the house today and found the top of my dresser to be Sad, but in the famous words of Coco Chanel "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." So I brought out some silver from the china closet and made my dresser a bit more worthy of a classy lady.

I have a lot of silver serving trays that spend months hidden away. This one was a perfect topper for my more masculine dresser. I put my pictures on one side, some jewels, a candle and tada...much much better.

   

Punishment Should be More Luxurious

Last night was the 3rd of July BBQ at our new neighbors house. We LOVE that they moved in across from us because like us they are young and have no kids. This translates to really fun parties. Indeed it was SO much fun I was moved into the guest room last night by The Romanian for "bad behavior."  As I sat in my cell for the evening, I began to mentally redecorate the room. It's a lovely sized room, but doesn't yield much light. It also has two eves I will have to work around making the ceiling very small. In situations like this it's often best to paint or paper the ceiling and walls the same. My search for inspiration begins

I'll Take It!!

Sunday is flea market day for me and my fellow blogger, Well Mannered. It's a 45 minute drive from us and as we headed north so did the rain. However as we reached our destination the rain let up and we began our search. The rain had thinned out the vendors significantly, but oddly the best vendors remained and they all had really great things!! The rain actually helped us in the end because vendors were eager to bargain and sell sell sell. Here's to hunting, searching, bargaining, buying and be creative once you get home.

Old jars a dime a dozen. I love them as drink glasses, but this is great too! Especially for a country wedding.

Vintage jars can be so beautiful. If you are new to the bottle market you want to try to get the ones with the original stoppers. This is a lovely collection.

In Vino Veritas

 I was in this wonderful new chocolatier store in New Canaan today called Belgique Patisserie et Chocolatier. I had their chocolates at a private party a few days prior and brought some home to the hubby who declared their dark chocolate filled with a coffee ganache AMAZING! Since we're off to a beach BBQ tomorrow I thought they would make a delish treat. The woman was packing up these yummy calories when she said I should put them in my "wine cellar" if I'm not eating them right away. I told her I didn't have a wine cellar, but I had something us folks like to call a refrigerator. She was sweet and indeed we are in an area where I have designed several wine rooms, sadly not for myself, so her comment was innocent and really funny.  Here's to the drink.

The owner wanted a fun modern bar for his "man room" I decided on antique planks as the base for the bar and a onyx stone in honey with 70 feet of tube under- lighting. I liked the play of old and new here. For the wine room behind the bar I had a custom cut seamless glass door with floating metal handles. I wanted to wine room to be seen from anywhere in the room and I wanted drama. We built a light box that surrounded the room and had red LED's installed. It gave it a "Red Light District" look that I really loved.

I don't need 4, but 1 wine frig would do just fine for me. Years ago I was at a party on the Upper West Side and the host had 2 of these built into his very large apartment. He also had two large locks on each one. I asked if he didn't trust his guest. He said " I trust my guests, I don't trust my kids." LOL

This is a friend of friends cellar he designed. It's one of the most original ideas I have seen and I love it!!

Ok I did just come up with the down side of this design. Going to get another bottle after already drinking 1 could be very dangerous.
